Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2, Verse 17

      श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता अध्याय 2, श्लोक 17

            Shloka 2.17 

avināśi tu tad viddhi yena sarvam idaṁ tatam
vināśam avyayasyāsya na kaścit kartum arhati

             श्लोक 2.17

अविनाशि तु तद्विद्धि येन सर्वमिदं ततम्।
विनाशमव्ययस्यास्य न कश्चित् कर्तुमर्हति॥

🕉️ English Translation:

Know that to be indestructible by which all this (universe) is pervaded.
No one is able to destroy that imperishable (Self).

️ हिंदी अनुवाद:

जो तत्व (आत्मा) अविनाशी है और जिससे यह सम्पूर्ण जगत व्याप्त है, उस अविनाशी का कोई भी नाश नहीं कर सकता।

📖 Detailed Meaning in English:

Lord Krishna tells Arjuna —
O Arjuna! The Self (Ātman) that dwells within the body is indestructible and eternal.
That same Self pervades all living beings, just like the sky pervades everything yet remains untouched.

The body is perishable, but the Self is infinite, unborn, and immortal. Fire cannot burn it, water cannot wet it, and wind cannot dry it. No weapon or power can destroy this eternal soul.

Here, Krishna explains that when someone’s body dies, it is only the body that ends — not the soul. Therefore, Arjuna should not grieve or fear death.

📖 विस्तृत अर्थ:

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण अर्जुन से कहते हैं —
हे अर्जुन! जो आत्मा इस शरीर में विद्यमान है, वह अविनाशी (नाश रहित) है। वही आत्मा सब प्राणियों के शरीरों में समान रूप से व्याप्त है, जैसे आकाश सबमें समान रूप से व्याप्त रहता है परंतु किसी से भी प्रभावित नहीं होता।

यह शरीर नश्वर है, लेकिन आत्मा अनन्त, अजन्मा, और अविनाशी है। न अग्नि उसे जला सकती है, न जल भिगो सकता है, न वायु सुखा सकती है। इस आत्मा का कोई नाश नहीं कर सकता — न किसी शस्त्र से, न किसी शक्ति से।

भगवान यहाँ यह समझा रहे हैं कि युद्ध में किसी के शरीर का नाश होना आत्मा का नाश नहीं है, क्योंकि आत्मा कभी मरती ही नहीं। अतः अर्जुन को शोक नहीं करना चाहिए।

सच्चा ज्ञान यह है कि “मैं शरीर नहीं, आत्मा हूँ”।
